Every June, Deaf students from three schools — Hearing & Beyond in Vietnam, New Beginnings in Tam Ky, and Central Deaf Services in Da Nang — gather for a special summer camp. For two days, school boundaries fade away as the students come together to learn, play, and build friendships.
This year’s CDS Summer Camp returned with a fresh and exciting theme: “Live Happy – Live Healthy.” It was more than just a summer break — it was a meaningful journey where students could grow in confidence and enjoy being themselves.
On the first day, the students joined workshops about important topics: understanding the rights of their body (appropriate vs. inappropriate touch), recognizing and managing emotions, and staying safe online. These sessions were designed to be interactive and easy to follow, helping the students gain practical knowledge that matters in their daily lives. As most students spend time online and on social media, this was an extremely important and deliberate topic.
The second day was full of fun and physical activities. The children played various games like paper passing, ring toss, and shoe-throw bowling. The highlight was a team-based treasure hunt, encouraging cooperation and problem-solving. A unique feature was mixing students into random teams, regardless of their schools. This broke down any divisions and helped everyone feel part of one big community.
Students shared their thoughts with excitement:
“I loved the treasure hunt. It was challenging but so much fun, even under the sun!”
“It was great to meet friends from the other schools. In our teams, we didn’t think about where anyone was from — we were all just one team.”
“I really enjoyed the learning sessions. Even when I got answers wrong, the teachers patiently helped me. This camp was amazing!”
The 2025 CDS Summer Camp ended with smiles, hugs, and lasting memories. More than just a fun event, it was a chance for students to build friendships, gain confidence, and learn valuable lessons they will carry with them as they grow.
